CICA Secretary-General Kairat Sarybay Visits SIIS

On April 13, 2023, CICA Secretary-General H.E. Amb. Kairat Sarybay led a delegation to visit Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS). SIIS President Chen Dongxiao met with the delegation.

President Chen updated Amb. Sarybay on the progress of the CICA Think Tank Forum's platform construction and expressed a willingness to continue to provide strong intellectual support for CICA's international influence and visibility in the future. Amb. Sarybay highly praised SIIS's historic contribution to the establishment of the CICA Think Tank Forum, fully affirmed SIIS's creative work in organizing collaborative research and multilateral dialogues, and expressed continued support for SIIS to play an active role within the CICA framework. The two sides also exchanged in-depth views on the conception document of the 11th CICA Think Tank Forum and the 2023 Annual Action Plan.

Anuar Tanalinov, Senior Expert at the CICA Secretariat, Gulnara Alimbayeva, SG's assistant, and Rakhimov Rakhimzhan, Consul General of Kazakhstan in Shanghai, accompanied Amb. Sarybay on the visit. Director Dr. Qiang Xiaoyun and Dr. Feng Shuai at the Center for Russian and Central Asian Studies, Director Ms. Zhu Juhua and Ms. Sun Shasha at the Department of International Exchanges, and Executive Director Dr. Zhang Pei at the Department of Research Management attended the meeting.

The CICA Think Tank Forum mechanism was born in March 2014. In the following seven years, under the leadership of the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, the CICA Think Tank Forum has held eight consecutive dialogues in the form of roundtable meetings and produced numerous research reports and chairman's declarations, which have had a wide impact among CICA Member States. With the joint efforts of all parties and the unanimous agreement of CICA Member States, the CICA Think Tank Forum formally became a standing body under the CICA in 2021. SIIS was also named the first Chair of the upgraded CICA Think Tank Forum and successfully hosted the 9th and 10th CICA Think Tank Forums.
